Gregory T. Lucier
Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Gregory T. Lucier has served as our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since May 2015. He has served as a member of the NuVasive Board of Directors since December 2013. An established strategic thought leader and business executive in the Life Sciences, Medical Device and Healthcare Technology sectors, Mr. Lucier is a proven game-changer with an eye for innovative technologies that will radically alter healthcare in the 21st century.
Known for his success in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer and in Board Director roles, he has demonstrated expertise in guiding enterprise growth through his focus on the integration of internal operating assets, building innovation capabilities, making accretive acquisitions, creating IP portfolios, expanding globally, and repositioning business models.
As Chairman and CEO of NuVasive, a medical device company that has transformed spine surgery by pioneering minimally invasive lateral approach spine surgery, Mr. Lucier and his team are again pushing the boundaries of medical device innovation with their recently launched, game-changing Integrated Global Alignment™ procedural solution, which is poised to change, yet again, how spine surgery is done.
Mr. Lucier’s vision on the power of genomics to eradicate disease states, such as cancer, led the growth trajectory of Life Technologies Corporation during the eleven years he served as Chairman and CEO.
The company was at the forefront genomics research, providing more than 50,000 laboratory and genomic testing products to customers in 180 countries, holding over 5,000 essential patents, with $4 billion in revenue to the acquisition by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2013 for $15.6 billion – one of the largest Life Sciences acquisitions to date. Mr. Lucier’s career with General Electric was focused on starting up and transforming major business models. During his tenure he served as President, Medical Information Technologies/GE Healthcare, overseeing the networking of medical electronic devices, digital imaging and clinical information systems with revenues of $1.8 billion. He was promoted by the GE Board to an officer of General Electric Corporation to serve as Vice President Global Services, GE Healthcare, the company’s $2 billion healthcare services business where he successfully led the transformation from a machine maintenance focus to GE being regarded as a powerhouse remote diagnostics.
Mr. Lucier received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a masters of business administration from Harvard Business School. In addition to serving on the Board of NuVasive, he is a member of the Board of Directors for Catalent, Inc. and Invuity, Inc. Additionally, Mr. Lucier is a former Chairman of the Board of Life Technologies and director of CareFusion Corporation, now part of Becton, Dickinson & Co.
Patrick Miles has served as our Vice Chairman since September 2016 and has served as a member of NuVasive’s Board of Directors since August 2016. Mr. Miles is responsible for enhancing the Company’s strategic plans for the future of spine surgery and supporting technology development. Prior to that, he served as the Company’s President and Chief Operating Officer from February 2015 to September 2016; President of Global Products and Services from October 2011 to January 2015; President of the Americas from January 2010 to September 2011; Executive Vice President of Product Marketing and Development from January 2007 to December 2009; Senior Vice President of Marketing from December 2004 to January 2007; and Vice President, Marketing from January 2001 to December 2004. Mr. Miles has more than 25 years of experience in the orthopedic industry, including prior roles with Medtronic Sofamor Danek and Smith & Nephew. Mr. Miles received a B.S. in Finance from Mercer University.
Jason M. Hannon
President and Chief Operating Officer
Jason Hannon has served as our President and Chief Operating Officer since September 2016. Mr. Hannon is responsible for leading NuVasive’s global products and services, including product management and development, as well as operational duties, including manufacturing, customer fulfillment, quality engineering and the Company’s international business. Prior to that, Mr. Hannon served as NuVasive’s Executive Vice President, International from July 2015 to September 2016, Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel from January 2010 to July 2015 and previously was the Company’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel. He has been with NuVasive since 2005. Mr. Hannon’s background includes the practice of corporate and transactional law, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, public and private financing, joint ventures, licensing arrangements and corporate governance matters. Mr. Hannon received a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
President, U.S. Commercial
Matt Link has served as our President, U.S. Commercial since July 2015 and is responsible for driving greater sales force efficiencies and the further development of NuVasive’s commercial strategies, including broad efforts to integrate the Company’s sales, service and specialized customer marketing programs. Previously, he served as our President, U.S. Sales and Service responsible for the leadership of all U.S. field personnel under NuVasive’s combined sales and service organization structure, which includes the management of the Company’s field sales, clinical associates, neurophysiologists and monitoring contracting. Prior to that, Mr. Link served as our Executive Vice President of U.S. Sales from January 2013 to January 2015 and Senior Vice President of Sales for the Company’s U.S. Eastern region from January 2012 to December 2012. Mr. Link joined NuVasive in 2006 and has more than 12 years in the healthcare industry serving in several regional sales positions with DePuy Orthopedics and DePuy Spine. Mr. Link received a BSEd in Physical Education and Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Head of Strategy and Corporate Integrity
Quentin Blackford has served as our Chief Financial Officer, Head of Strategy and Corporate Integrity since August 2016. In this role, Mr. Blackford is responsible for leading Finance, Strategy and Corporate Development, Compliance and Regulatory. Since 2009, he has served in various leadership roles including Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations, Vice President of Finance, and Corporate Controller.
Mr. Blackford has more than 17 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including his time at Zimmer Holdings, Inc. where he held various roles and responsibilities, including the Director of Finance and Controller for Zimmer’s Dental Division where he was responsible for all finance, accounting and IT activities for the worldwide division. Prior to that he had responsibility for the global corporate financial planning and analysis function at Zimmer.
He obtained his Certified Public Accounting license following the achievement of dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting, from Grace College.
Executive Vice President, External Affairs and Corporate Marketing
Carol Cox joined NuVasive in July 2014 and serves as our Executive Vice President, External Affairs and Corporate Marketing. In this role, Ms. Cox is responsible for leading NuVasive’s external communications efforts, which are inclusive of investor and public relations and government affairs, as well as corporate marketing and the NuVasive Spine Foundation. Ms. Cox has more than 20 years of senior level experience in cross-functional corporate roles in the healthcare sector. Ms. Cox joined NuVasive from Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham) where she served as Senior Vice President, External Affairs, leading external and internal communications, philanthropy, marketing, government relations and efforts to elevate the Institute’s global recognition. Prior to Sanford- Burnham, she served as Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Communications at Life Technologies, where she spearheaded global strategies to drive awareness of the company’s major initiatives, enhance its global brand, and maintain its corporate reputation across multiple stakeholder groups including shareholders, the media, government officials, customers and the communities. Before joining Life Technologies, Ms. Cox was Vice President of Investor Relations at CareFusion Corporation and Senior Vice President for Global Corporate Communications and Investor Relations at Barr Pharmaceuticals, where her team received multiple awards from Institutional Investor magazine for outstanding performance. She holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and a certificate in Investor Relations from The University of Connecticut School of Business.
Chief Information Officer
Johnson Lai has served as our Chief Information Officer since August 2015. Mr. Lai has more than 20 years of IT leadership experience and brings to the role extensive expertise in advancement of enterprise IT initiatives. Most recently, he was Vice President of IT at Thermo Fisher Scientific where he was responsible for providing the IT leadership to the Laboratory Products business group, as well as being an executive member of the integration management team that governed the integration of Life Technologies into Thermo Fisher Scientific. In that capacity, Mr. Lai was responsible for driving processes that created a combined IT vision and successfully executing global programs that achieved the targeted revenue and cost synergy objectives. Additionally, he provided IT leadership for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s corporate functions with a business centric approach, including the support of mergers and acquisitions, among other responsibilities. Previously, as a senior IT leader at Life Technologies, Mr. Lai was responsible for delivering critical IT projects, including a global ERP, e-commerce and IT integration of companies acquired. Prior to that, Mr. Lai was a global IT leader for Abbott Vascular where he led the deployment of a single instance global ERP system and further matured the IT infrastructure and data centers to world-class levels. Mr. Lai has a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics from the University of California at Davis and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in MIS, Accounting & Finance from the University of California at Davis.
CEO of NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics™, Inc.
Ed Roschak has served as our CEO of NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics, Inc.
since February 2016. Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer, and as a member of the board of directors, of Ellipse Technologies, Inc. from September 2011 until NuVasive’s acquisition of Ellipse in February 2016. From October 2010 to September 2011, Mr. Roschak served as Ellipse’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to Ellipse, Mr. Roschak was employed for nearly ten years by Broncus Technologies, Inc., medical device company focused on developing devices for the treatment of lung diseases, including serving as their Senior Vice President of Research and Development from January 2007 to February 2010. During his time there, Broncus completed the spin-off of Asthmatx, a less-invasive catheter-based bronchial thermoplasty medical device company which was later acquired by Boston Scientific. Prior to Broncus, Mr. Roschak served in several positions at Hewlett-Packard and Guidant following the acquisition of Origin Medsystems. Mr. Roschak received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon.
Pete Leddy, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President, Global Human Resources, Facilities and Internal Communication
Pete Leddy, Ph.D., has served as our Executive Vice President, Global Human Resources since July 2015 and is responsible for leadership of the NuVasive’s Human Resources and Facilities departments after serving as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors from 2011 to July 2015. Dr. Leddy’s success in driving business growth through the application of best-in-class, innovative Human Resource solutions has resulted in his leading several major employee and cultural transformation initiatives throughout his more than 25 year career. Most recently, he served as Chief Human Resource Officer at Taylor Made Golf Company. From 2005 to February 2014, Dr. Leddy served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Life Technologies, a biotechnology company. During his tenure at Life Technologies, Dr. Leddy developed a premier human resources function, aligning business strategy to business growth for 10,000 employees at over 80 sites worldwide. Prior to Life Technologies, Dr. Leddy held several senior management positions with Dell Incorporated, from 2000 to 2005, where he was responsible for leading global talent and human resources in the Americas, overseeing 12,000 employees. He has served as the Executive Vice President for Human Resources at Promus Hotel Corporation (Doubletree, Embassy Suites), implementing human resources strategies that drove operational excellence with 350 HR professionals in every level of the company. In addition, he has held a variety of executive and human resource positions at PepsiCo. Dr. Leddy currently serves on the strategic advisory board of Pathway Genomics Corporation. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Creighton University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial/organizational psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
